Recently Tianna and Joshua , our School Captains held a handball fundraiser to raise funds for underprivileged schools in Cambodia. The fundraiser was a great success with Tianna, Isabella and their family travelling to Cambodia in the recent school holidays. Read Tianna's report below.
The Goodwill School Visit – Cambodia
A few weeks ago we met Jennifer Hogart, an English volunteer at the Goodwill School in Sinhanoukiville in Cambodia. When we got to the under-cover sportsground, we presented her with some fundraising money that our school raised by a handball competition, along with some books, pens, backpacks and pencils. She was very thankful and so were the kids. At the sports ground I met some kids and joined in a game of soccer. They were all very nice.
The people in Cambodia are so poor that their parents can't afford money for them to go to school. The Goodwill School helps by taking in the very poor and teaching them English and computer skills.
The children also have to work, so many of them walk around selling bracelets, but the very young collect 4000 bottles to get one US dollar. That's why I want the money to go to learning about the environment as some areas are quite dirty in Cambodia.
Cambodia is such a poor country, but everyone is so happy. Many struggle to survive so it highlights the point of how lucky we are. I hope with some schools like the Goodwill school, kids will get an education and a better chance in life!
